Breakaway racists set up
shop in Leeds
ANTI-NAZI campaigners today urged the Leeds public to fight racists who have formed a splinter group in the city.
The White Nationalist Party touts itself as being more hardline than the British National Party (BNP) and vows to "take the battle onto the streets, factories and estates".
The far-right cell has set up headquarters in the Armley area and is actively recruiting for members.
Vigilant
Adverts for the party - which carry a phone number on which to contact WNP bosses - have been found around the city.
According to its website, the group is seekingthe repatriation of immigrants and a ban on non-Europeans entering Britain.
A spokesman for the Anti-Nazi League told the Yorkshire Evening Post that the WNP's choice of Leeds for its headquarters was "worrying".
"They are fairly new and were set up by members who broke away from the British National Party because they didn't agree with the image it was portraying," he said.
"Incredibly, they thought the BNP was becoming too soft in its attitudes. The fact that the group has set up in Leeds is a source of concern, but we would just warn people to be vigilant and to fight back.
"When ordinary people stand up to these groups, they simply tend to disappear."
Among the policies listed on the WNP's website are the reintroduction of capital punishment and the "dismantling of our enforced multi-racial society in a lawful and orderly fashion".
BNP member Mark Collett, a student at Leeds University, stood for Harehills in this summer's city elections, fmishing third.
The Anti-Nazi League spokesman added: "Any kind of far-right activity is something to be worried about.
"But we would argue that the BNP remains the major threat as it is still the biggest group of its kind in the country."
No one at the White Nationalist Party was available for comment.

Party rights
Should the White Nationalist Party be allowed to set up in Leeds? I thought we were living in a democracy?
They should be allowed to set up wherever they like. I may not agree with their views but they have as much right as anyone to have their voices heard. It's what our grandparents fought and died to preserve.

Free to speak
Of course the White Nationalist Party should be allowed to "set up shop" as you put it.
This is a democratic society which includes freedom of speech.
The anti-Nazi campaigners in my view, if they could, would jail any dissident overnight. This country is rapidly turning into another America and every politician knows this and that to speak out against immigration would be political suicide.
Extremists exist in both factions, it's just that one receives more negative press than the other, it's called "propaganda".
